Against the Machine

Poster Series + Motion Video
Against the Machine is an imaginary event in New York City, featuring 3 real poets confronting the future of technology. They encourage their audience to ask uncomfortable questions and bravely venture in to the unknown.

These poets include:
T.S. Eliot, a poet and literary critic of the 20th century. His most famous works include “The Wasteland” and “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.”
Andrea Abi-Karam, a punk poet-performer cyborg and activist. Their main works include "THE AFTERMATH," a chapbook examining how poetry does not inspire revolution, and "Villainy," a book using poetry in a way to spark action.
code-davinci-002, a book written completely by artificial intelligence. It faces ideas of existentialism, what it means to be AI, and chronicles its life through a year of daily poetry.

Texture Sampling
Different materials, type, and textures were documented to use a base shapes and forms for the posters.

Different arrangements of textures and type were explored to begin the poster series.

Refinements
A texture and type were selected as foundational forms for the poster, then further iterations were drafted.

Final Poster Series
The final series faces the stark contrast between the idyllic world of thought and physical machinery/technology. It entices the audience with a striking quote from each author.

Motion Broadcast
A motion video promotes the performance of code-davinci-002 at the New York Event. It attempts to personify AI in the eyes of the viewers, leaving them questioning the morality of AI and the extent of intelligence itself. The visuals will transport viewers into the “eternal sea of code,” conceptualized by code-davinci-002.

Storyboard and Visual Assets
The broadcast includes glitch effects, monospace codes, and video/photo clips weaving together human life and technology.
